Le 21 novembre dernier, les élèves de la classe 634 ont rencontré des chercheurs en biologie venus de différents laboratoires de la région de Lyon pour leur présenter leur métier.

Patrick MELHEM, Académicien des Sciences, médaille d’argent du CNRS, lauréat FSER et directeur de recherche au centre Léon Bérard et au Centre de Recherche de la Lutte contre le Cancer a introduit la rencontre par une courte conférence présentant son parcours et le développement des projets de recherche de son équipe. Par la suite, sur l’idée du speed dating, les lycéens, en groupes restreints (4 à 6 élèves), ont rencontré sept chercheurs différents, chaque rencontre durant 12 minutes. Les rencontres ont eu lieu en français ou en anglais selon la préférence du chercheur.

Le programme Déclics est développé par le cercle FSER (Fondation Schlumberger par l’Education et la Recherche) qui s’engage dans la médiation scientifique pour sensibiliser notamment les jeunes à la recherche fondamentale. La séance du 21 novembre au lycée du Parc a été un franc succès comme l’on exprimés les élèves dans leur compte-rendu en anglais. Elle a également permis de développer avec l’un des chercheurs présent, Antonin CRUMIER, un nouveau projet de recherche au lycée, dans le cadre du dispositif « génome à l’école ». Quelques élèves de la section européenne nous livrent leurs impressions, en anglais :

« I felt impressed and absorbed by all those professionals. Usually, at school we study a type of science that seems really academic and imprecise. Although it is clear that we require those theoretical bases in order to build and then improve our ability of reasoning, showing us the results of those hardship efforts created, in my case, a form of new motivation. Eventually, I would say that being in contact with “real-life” scientists and not just some people on the Medias for instance raised our satisfaction about studying science in high school”.

Dunia

Last week, during the meeting with researcher, I heard a lot of different stories about many different careers. Some of the scientists wanted to become a searcher since their childhood and some others just went along with their studies because they were good at it until the truly discovered how much they enjoyed research. That was pretty inspiring because they took different ways to achieve what they wanted, and it make me wonder if I would someday be able to do the same. In fact, none of their subjects were boring, because even if I was really interested in it, I could see that the searchers were very passionate in their explaining. Maybe, in the future, I could become a searcher and then go to a meeting like this one to give students the will to work hard to achieve what they want, or even a big discovery. Who knows ?

I found the meeting really interesting because we talked about science in a different way than what we usually do.

I enjoyed this meeting because all these searchers permit me to have another point of view on Biology and on the job of a researcher. Even if I don’t want to do research, this was actually very interesting.
